Produktpass for JTL-Shop 5

Battery passport and battery QR code for JTL-Shop

From 18.02.2027, every battery placed on the EU market must carry a QR code (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Art. 13(6)). Produktpass creates battery passport pages and battery QR codes on your shop's domain, with the fields of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Annex XIII.

Produktpass is finished and comes to the JTL Extension Store next. Join the list, and we will let you know as soon as it is in the store.

Key date

18.02.2027

From 18.02.2027, every battery placed on the EU market needs a QR code (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Art. 13(6)).

What Produktpass gives you

  • Passports and QR codes on your domain

Battery passport pages and battery QR codes on your shop's domain, with the fields of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Annex XIII; every field says which article asks for it.

  • Data from JTL-Wawi

Takes data from JTL-Wawi attributes. Or fill in a CSV template, or enter the values in the passport editor.

  • Your passports stay online

Even if you cancel, your passports stay online as long as the plugin stays active; printed codes keep working.

What applies from 18.02.2027

  • A QR code on every battery (Art. 13(6) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542). It leads to the battery passport or, for batteries without a passport duty, to the label's information, the declaration of conformity, the due diligence report and the information on disposal. The code is on the battery or, where that is not possible, on the packaging and the accompanying documents (Art. 13(7)).
  • A battery passport (Art. 77(1)) for every LMT battery (for example for e-bikes and e-scooters), every industrial battery above 2 kWh and every electric-vehicle battery. The economic operator who places the battery on the market is responsible for the accuracy of the data (Art. 77(4)).

Who needs a battery passport – and who does not

The duty falls on whoever places the battery on the EU market, that is, makes it available on the Union market for the first time (Art. 3 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542):

  • Manufacturer: whoever has a battery designed or made and markets it under their own name or brand, also as a retailer with an own brand.
  • Importer: whoever is established in the EU and places a battery from a third country on the market.

Whoever buys a branded battery within the EU and resells it does not place it on the market and does not have to create a battery passport for it (Art. 3). Retailer duties under the Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (Art. 31(2)) apply only once a delegated act sets them for a product group; there is none for batteries.

Produktpass helps you with the battery passport and the battery QR code under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. The plugin's texts, templates and notes are not legal advice. You remain responsible for your duties and for the accuracy of your data. For a binding answer on your own case, ask a lawyer.

What it looks like

Examples from our test shop, with sample data.

Price

The planned price is 9.90 euros a month plus VAT, with a 14-day test licence. The plugin comes to the JTL Extension Store, for business customers only.

Still open: registration in the EU registry

Battery passports are registered in the EU's registry of digital product passports (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1778, Art. 1(1)(b) and Art. 8). Whether that is needed from 18.02.2027 for passports on the shop's own domain, and at which level (model, batch or individual battery), is not settled yet. We are clarifying it and will publish the result on this page.

From the guide

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a battery passport for every battery?

Art. 77(1) requires a battery passport for LMT batteries, industrial batteries above 2 kWh and electric-vehicle batteries; Art. 13(6) requires a QR code for all batteries. Produktpass chooses the template from category and energy. Whether the duties apply to you, you decide for your products.

Where does the data come from?

From JTL-Wawi attributes, from a CSV file or from your input in the passport editor. Values you change by hand are not overwritten by the Wawi mapping until you choose "Take the Wawi value".

Where are the passports?

In your shop, on your domain. We receive no data.

What happens if I cancel?

Your published passports, documents and QR addresses stay online; printed codes keep working. Editing and publishing are locked until a renewal. Keep the plugin active for that.

Can I test the plugin?

Yes, with the JTL Extension Store's test licence. Codes and print sheets then carry the word "TESTLIZENZ"; print codes for your goods with the paid licence.

How large must the QR code be printed?

At least 20 × 20 mm including the white margin. The plugin warns when your shop's address needs a larger print.

Does the plugin slow down my shop?

On our test system (JTL-Shop 5.8.1 with PHP 8.3 and MariaDB 10.11 on 4 CPU cores; the target is a server with 2 vCPU, 4 GB of memory and PHP 8.3 with OPcache) a passport page with 10,000 passports answered in under 150 milliseconds for 95 of 100 requests, and the badge on the product page cost under 5 milliseconds. During the sync with JTL-Wawi the plugin only notes each product; that made the sync less than 0.1 milliseconds longer per product (median). The mapping itself runs afterwards in the background through JTL-Shop's cron, at most 500 products per run. The plugin makes no additional database queries on other pages; it makes one query only after the cache is emptied. Times on your server may differ.

Do I need an entry in the cookie banner?

The passport pages set no cookies and load nothing from other servers.

Must I register the passports in the EU registry?

Whether battery passports on your own domain must be registered in the EU's registry of digital product passports from 18.02.2027, and at which level, is not settled yet (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1778, Art. 1(1)(b) and Art. 8). Produktpass exports the data as CSV and JSON. If registration becomes necessary, the registry may require a qualified electronic seal of your company (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1778, recital 6); Produktpass does not provide such a seal.

Where do I find help?
