The code opens a page, not a table
The QR code is set out in Art. 13(6) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, its design in Annex VI Part C. What it opens depends on the battery: for LMT batteries, industrial batteries above 2 kWh and electric-vehicle batteries it leads to the battery passport (Art. 77(1)). For all other batteries it leads to the label's information, the declaration of conformity, the due diligence report and the information on disposal.
So the code itself does not carry a table of values but an address. Whoever scans it with a phone lands on a page with the information. That is why the question of where this page lives and whether it stays reachable for the long term matters as much as the code itself: a printed code cannot be called back.
The code goes on the battery or the packaging
The QR code is printed or engraved on the battery. Where that is not possible, for example because the battery is too small, it goes on the packaging and the accompanying documents (Art. 13(7)). The same rule applies to built-in batteries; so assign devices with a built-in battery to a group too.
As a rule it is not the online shop that applies the code but the factory or the supplier. Who applies the code and which address it holds is settled with them. If you are responsible as the manufacturer or importer, you supply the address; the factory prints it.
The address belongs on your own domain
For the battery passport the regulation asks for a unique identifier under ISO/IEC 15459, parts 1 to 6 (Art. 77). A common form is the GS1 Digital Link: a web address that holds the product's GTIN and, for passports of individual batteries, the serial number, for example https://your-shop.com/dpp/01/09520000000479.
If this address is on your own domain, it stays in your hands. The data should be available for the long term, even when the economic operator no longer exists (Art. 78). If the address changes later, earlier addresses should redirect, so that printed codes keep working.
20 × 20 mm is the minimum size
Produktpass gives a minimum print size of 20 × 20 mm including the white margin. Longer addresses make the code denser; the plugin warns when your shop's address needs a larger print. Print the PNG file at 100 % without scaling it, or use the SVG file, which can be enlarged without loss.
For labels there is a print sheet with up to 24 codes on an A4 page (3 × 8 labels of 70 × 37 mm). For individual batteries a serial batch creates up to 10,000 codes at once, as a ZIP file with one SVG file per serial number and a CSV file with GTIN, serial number and address.
A badge brings the passport to the product page
The QR code on the battery is what the regulation asks for. Many buyers, however, look for the information before buying, on the product page. So Produktpass shows a badge with a link to the passport on the product page in JTL-Shop, at one of four positions: after the product facts (default), after the price, after the basket button, or as a tab of its own.
The passport page itself sets no cookies, loads nothing from other servers and shows only the public information (Annex XIII No. 1). Persons with a legitimate interest and authorities get their information through the contact e-mail address you enter in the settings. Which batteries need a passport is explained in Which batteries need a battery passport?; battery passport duty 2027 gives the overview of the dates.
Produktpass delivers SVG and PNG at 600 dpi
In Produktpass, under “QR codes and labels”, you download the code of every published passport as SVG or as PNG at 600 dpi. Under a test licence, codes and print sheets carry the word “TESTLIZENZ”; print codes for your goods with the paid licence. Published passports, documents and QR addresses stay reachable even when the licence ends, as long as the plugin stays active.
